How was the training? The facilitator was nice and the food was delicious!! Such feedback is shared by participants after workshops and sessions, over and over again!
Is that the kind of feedback that you are aiming for, or one you should be satisfied with?! The answer is No; the moment you hear such feedback you should stop and give yourself time to think about your facilitation and role as a coach/ trainer! Training and coaching should never be about you or food!
Training and coaching is about participants, it’s all about them not YOU!
People attend various educational sessions and workshops not just to memorize content or to like you, it’s about them getting inspired to listen and learn more about the topic, it’s about enabling them to self-reflect and decide how they can make the best use of this knowledge, how they can use it to change their life, your role is to enable them to see all this, retain some of the key points and get motivated to continue learning about this topic and most importantly to be willing to apply and convert this knowledge into a new skill that will have a long lasting impact on them.
This is your role, and this is where feedback will differ, you should be able to see it in their eyes, wide open, bright and sparkling and you can even hear questions in their head before they even ask, this is what a trainer/ coach role should be.
This is why I love what I do, partners who hire me to deliver workshops and participants who attend are my biggest asset and it takes lots of hard work and continuous learning to solicit feedback from them that will keep you inspired and motivated too to continue this journey.
