Sometimes, the best way to teach storytelling is to be a story. That was my approach for a recent series of trainings I led for employees of Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC (Oman LNG), thanks to the wonderful team at New Metrics. While the training was for Oman LNG, we held it at a fantastic hotel in Muscat – a deliberate choice to create a more relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. We weren’t just talking about crafting compelling narratives; we were living one.

Forget stuffy conference halls and rigid rows of chairs. Instead, we transformed a club lounge into our creative haven. Think beanbags, not boardroom tables. The goal was to create an environment where everyone felt comfortable, relaxed, and ready to open up. Because honest storytelling comes from the heart, and you can’t access that when you’re feeling stiff and formal.
The training itself was all about authenticity. We dove deep into the power of telling your story, not someone else’s. Stories, I believe, must be genuine, told with honesty, love, and integrity. And the key ingredient? Our difference. What makes each of us unique is what makes our stories resonate. It’s what connects us to an audience on a deeper level.

Over the three days, we explored how to weave these personal elements into presentations that not only inform but also engage the audience. We worked on building confidence, projecting presence, and crafting narratives that leave a lasting impact. It wasn’t just about presenting projects; it was about connecting with people.

The energy in the room (or, should I say, lounge) was incredible. Everyone was so invested in the process, sharing their own experiences and supporting each other. It was a true testament to the power of human connection.

This training with Oman LNG wasn’t just another workshop; it was an experience. It was a story in itself. And I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. It reinforced my belief that when we embrace our authenticity and tell our stories with heart, we can truly move and inspire others. If you’re ready to ditch the conference room and discover the power of your own story, I’d love to connect.
