The energy was electric at the 6th edition of Make the Deal (MTD) in Doha on February 25th. As an invited coach & trainer, I had the privilege of guiding promising startups through the thrilling world of fundraising, pitch refinement, and investor connections.
Mentoring: More Than Just Advice
One of the most rewarding aspects of mentoring was helping founders distill complex ideas into relatable stories. Some struggled to articulate the core problem they were solving without getting lost in technical jargon. We took a step back, exploring their motivations and the “why” behind their ventures. This journey of self-discovery often unearthed powerful narratives that resonated with investors on a human level.
Storytelling: The Secret Sauce of Pitching
In my masterclass, we dove into the art of pitching using storytelling. It’s not just about the facts and figures; it’s about capturing hearts and minds. We covered everything from crafting a compelling opening hook to designing a memorable closing statement. It was inspiring to see founders transform their pitches from dry presentations into engaging stories that left a lasting impression.
Doha’s Startup Showcase
MTD brought together a vibrant tapestry of startups from across the region, including Turkey, UAE, India, Pakistan, and Jordan. The diversity of ideas and backgrounds was a testament to the thriving startup ecosystem in this part of the world. And the results were impressive – several startups successfully secured funding at the event!
More Than Just Money
While fundraising is a major goal, events like MTD offer so much more. It’s a chance for founders to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and foster a sense of community. It’s a learning ground where they can refine their pitches, gain valuable feedback, and grow as entrepreneurs.
A Bright Future Ahead
As I reflect on my MTD experience, I’m filled with optimism for the future of these startups and the region’s entrepreneurial landscape. The passion, resilience, and innovative spirit on display were truly inspiring. I’m honored to have played a small part in their journey and can’t wait to see what they accomplish next.
A special thank you to the Digital Incubation Center (DIC) and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Qatar for the invitation.
Here’s to making deals, telling stories, and building a brighter future together!
